We Are Different CIC aims to help children better understand and express themselves, be confident as individuals and be sure of their place in a multicultural society. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do.

Based on an original short story by Mark Currie called The Man Who Was Different, the story is a reminder that we should all be proud of our differences, no matter who we are or what we look or sound like.

The ‘We Are Different’ project will provide interactive creative stimulus material, including a short, animated film, for the benefit of all schools and local community groups in Yorkshire.

The resources will be aligned to the PHSE (personal, health, social & economic education) curriculum with Key Stage 2 in mind. They will cover a whole range of self-esteem issues, such as discrimination, stereotyping, anti-bullying, identity, and respect, to encourage discussion and reflection and improve the mental health and wellbeing of the children.

“The Man who was Different is a must read for all Primary Schools in Post Covid Britain. It covers a whole range of self esteem issues, positivity, anti bullying and covers most aspects of the PHSE curriculum. It gives a Child’s Voice to a school setting, it encourages discussion and reflection whilst covering important issues in a young adults new mind set. The next logical step is to see this created as an interactive film which will promote the message to the next level by reaching and stimulating children who work in different ways.” Chris Dyson, Former Headteacher at Parklands Primary School, Leeds)

We Are Different CIC are looking for support funding to help complete their creative resources. Once completed, the resources will be delivered free of charge to those schools and communities that need them the most.
