This is a story and a film like no other
The Man Who Was Different is an original story written and illustrated by Mark Currie about a man with unusual and extraordinary talents.
As people, we are often fascinated by different things, but we are sometimes afraid too. However, what makes us different also makes us special. The story reminds us that we should all be proud of our differences no matter who we are or what we look or sound like.
We are living at a time when some people are becoming a bit less open-minded, even intolerant of those who are different. But we should all recognise that we share a common humanity and rather than showing opposition, we should embrace and celebrate difference.
The Man Who Was Different package includes a book in printed or digital format, a short, animated film (9 minutes in length) supplied as a link, and ideas for interactive lesson planning resources for teachers, to make teaching easier.
We want to engage children in a range of fun, active PHSE learning experiences alongside your school’s class teacher. For example; (1) A school assembly featuring a short film screening and Q&A. (2) In-class discussion about the film and the range of self-esteem issues it raises. (3) A PHSE class lesson on how to structure a story; children would create their own story or fable based on ‘difference’ or other important human values.
